The Remains of the Day is a portrait of the perfect English butler and of his fading, insular world postwar England. At the end of his three decades of service at Darlington Hall, Stevens embarks on a country drive, during which he looks back over his career to reassure himself that he has served humanity by serving “a great gentleman.” But lurking in his memory are doubts about the true nature of Lord Darlington’s “greatness” and graver doubts about his own faith in the man he served.

  1. Will hope to come on the 30th and will also plan on going to The Mount on the 22nd ( along with some CT book club friends.) If I can come on the 30th, I will let you know asap what I am bringing. (Any particular needs?)

    • I will keep you posted Shelley!

  2. I plan to attend the book group on September 30. I can bring a broccoli salad and/or chips and bean dip. Do we still meet at the park if it rains? Looking forward to seeing everyone again. Kathleen

    • Hi Kathleen,
I’m glad to see that you will be able to make it!

We are currently planning to meet at the park at 12:15. If it is not raining hard, we may go for a walk. After walking for abit, we will go to a local spot for tea or lunch. The food mentioned sounds wonderful, but

      • given the forecast, we have decided to not bring food.

  3. Hi Kathleen! If you get this message, could you call me please at 978-621-4909? Isabelle is reporting that the rain is not supposed to let up near Borderlands. She is suggesting we met at an indoor location.
